Carglumic acid
ТаблеткиCarglumic acid can quickly relieve hyperammonemia (high levels of ammonia in the blood). Ammonia is particularly toxic to the brain and in severe cases leads to decreased level of consciousness and coma.
Indications
Carglumic acid is indicated for the treatment of hyperammonemia in adults and children against the background of:
- primary deficiency of N-acetylglutamate synthetase;
- isovalerian acidemia;
- methylmalonic acidemia;
- propionic acidemia.
Contraindications
Do not take the preparation Carglumic acid:
- If you are allergic to carglumic acid or any other ingredients of the medicine (listed in section 6 of the leaflet insert);
- if you are breast-feeding.
Usage
The preparation Carglumic acid should be taken orally before a meal or feeding (tablets should be pre-dissolved in at least 5-10 ml of water). The prepared suspension should be taken immediately or administered through a nasogastric tube with a syringe. The suspension has a sour taste.
It is recommended to divide the daily dose into 2-4 doses.
To select the required dose, in most cases it is sufficient to break the tablet in half. In some cases, to select the dose prescribed by the doctor, the tablet should be broken into 4 parts.
The bottle should be sealed hermetically to protect it from moisture.
The date of opening the vial should be written on the package.
